Motivating creative people, the Stalin style.

Below is a copy of Stalin's letter sent in 1940 to the management of a machine-gun factory. In the letter the Soviet dictator demands a quick solution to an urgent R&D/production problem. How does he motivate the factory's creative team? Simply put, "If you don't solve the problem in two or three days I'll have all of you shot."
